It’s just been announced that Nottingham Greyhound Stadium have secured a ‘silver partnership’ with Notts County Football Club, in an attempt to reverse the decline of their attendance and popularity. At its peak, there were 250 licensed tracks in the UK, only 21 now remain.
Greyhound racing has been proven to expose dogs to painful injuries and death; it has no place in modern society and is definitely not something that should be considered a sport. Data from the Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) shows that over 2,200 greyhounds died and over 22,000 injuries were recorded from greyhound racing between 2018 and 2022.
Petition to Adam Chantrey, Head of Notts County FC Commercial Sales
The Blue Cross, Dogs Trust and RSPCA are all calling for an end to greyhound racing in the UK to protect the dogs, and we can’t allow for this to be delayed due to tracks associating themselves with legitimate sports.
We are signing this petition to urgently ask Notts County Football Club to drop this partnership to show that they care about protecting dogs from harm and upholding the integrity of the football community. Football is a sport that brings such joy to so many people without putting animals in harm's way; this partnership is a misstep and needs to be urgently corrected.
